Making Sense of an Apparently Senseless Foreign Policy

A segment of the American public must be yelling expletives whenever the results of our apparently incoherent foreign policy show up on their TV screens. Many can only react to our dealings with Syria, Iran, Libya, Israel, and now Russia with bewilderment and anger.

The news outlets that are balanced keep replaying the words of Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, four years apart, predicting Russia’s intentions toward Ukraine. Watching those statements leaves us baffled as to why the mainstream media lampooned them when they accurately and perceptively anticipated Russia’s deviant move.

But let me explain what’s going on. It does make sense if you understand the perspective:

Obama/Clinton/Kerry, et al, represent a segment of society with a worldview that churns the stomach of anyone with a Judeo-Christian worldview. Their worldview was known in the 20th century as “secular humanism.” Now it is called “progressive ideology,” but the only thing progressive about it is its name.

During the 1930s and 40s, that worldview began to invade the church. In 1943, the Archbishop of Canterbury, William Temple, alerted Christendom to the danger, warning that it would result in some churches retaining “Christian values without Christian faith.”

How prophetic was that?

The heart of secular humanism presents an opinion on “man” that directly contradicts the Bible. The Bible clearly shows that after the fall of man in Eden, man became capable of great evil. History offers a long, long list of people that have demonstrated that fact (see: Hitler, Stalin, etc.).

The secular humanists developed an opposite view, however, that man is innately good—and education and enlightenment can even make man very good. In fact, the motto of the American Humanist Association is “Good without a God.” Go figure.

We can now understand why, when President Reagan referred to the Soviet Union as the “evil empire,” the three major American TV networks went apoplectic. His statement directly contradicted their creed. No wonder the State Department tried to have that statement removed from Reagan’s speech (Reagan insisted that it remain).

A recent example of this is MSNBC’s Joy Reid, who as a guest on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, was unwilling to brand either Putin or Assad as evil.

Now that much of our society has moved far away from the biblical worldview of good and evil, it is shocked when it sees evil penetrating the headlines. Evil doesn’t jive with the humanist mish-mash that has been taught for generations.

Obama/Clinton/Kerry, et al, are products of this “Good without a God” ideology. Now, with them in charge of our foreign policy, the most powerful nation is in danger. Under their stewardship, soon we will be a powerful nation no longer.

To them, since there is no evil, all nations and national leaders are good. And America is no better than anyone else. Therefore, America should not have such power, and instead, should lead from behind (if at all). They are bringing the greatest experiment in all of humanity down into the dirty mire that engulfed other great nations in the past.

Those who believe in an all-powerful God who rules the universe can still take comfort. They must keep insisting that there is good and evil, for surely Judgment Day will come and prove them right.

Sarah Palin to Students: Has America Forgotten God?

Former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin encouraged Christian students to influence American culture during Southeastern University’s 2013 National Leadership Forum on Friday.

“Today, look around, and don’t you wonder sometimes if, as a nation, we have forgotten God altogether? This is a crucial question,” said Palin during the seventh annual The Forum event, according to The Ledger.

The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate told students they should “infiltrate” the nation and influence its culture by becoming involved in the worlds of sports, journalism and film. She also spokes about the problems she sees with Washington.

“The federal government is bloated, corrupt and out-of-control,” she said of federal spending. She also called the nation’s capital a “hotbed of cronyism,” according to The Ledger.

Abortion for Disabled Babies: Who’s to Blame?

Jennifer Morbelli’s baby had a name. The baby registry was complete, filled with already-purchased items like the book “I’ll Love You Forever.” The nursery was set up. Jennifer Morbelli’s baby, Madison Leigh, was a wanted child—and only seven weeks shy of birth.

Instead, mother and child both died last week from a botched late-term abortion. After learning that Madison had severe birth defects and a short life expectancy, Jennifer and her husband turned to Leroy Carhart, one of the only doctors in the country who performs third-trimester abortions. On February 7th, Jennifer was rushed to the emergency room. (When hospital staff desperately tried to contact Carhart, he was MIA.) Jennifer apparently died from internal bleeding as a result of the 33-week abortion.

As the story broke online, comments flooded in. Some expressed sympathy and sorrow for Jennifer’s family. Other “pro-life” commenters called her a murderer and said they were glad she was dead. They asked, “How could she? What kind of mother was she?”

My answer: probably one who knew how parents in her position are treated. Many women are met with hostility and shaming when they make the unpopular “choice” to carry disabled children to term.

Back in 2009, a young single woman, Myah Walker, learned that her baby had anencephaly, a fatal anomaly in which only part of the brain develops. Instead of terminating the pregnancy, Myah decided to carry the baby (named Faith Hope) to term, and chronicle her experience on a blog.

The response? An avalanche of hate. Entire blogs were created to slam Myah and her child.

The first thing you’ll gather from reading these blogs is that these people are really, really angry, because—well, I’m not sure why. Because Myah walked the walk when it came to her Christian beliefs and eschewed abortion? The hate brigade weirdly accused her of “bigotry,” ridiculed her for supposedly being date-raped by the child’s father, and e-mailed her lists of suggestions for how she could off her “zombaby,” who lived to be three months old.

How many women receiving a poor prenatal diagnosis could withstand that kind of torment?

Throughout the 2008 campaign and beyond, liberal bloggers and “comedians” hurled abuse at Sarah Palin’s infant son, Trig, who was born with Down’s syndrome. Jeff Stuef of Wonkette celebrated Trig’s third birthday by sneering, “‘Oh, little boy what are you dreaming about’…What’s he dreaming about? Nothing. He’s retarded.”

This is bigotry against the disabled—nothing more, nothing less. The left’s usual political correctness went out the window, and it was okay to toss around the word “retard” like fifth graders on the school bus. They repeatedly claimed Palin earned this treatment by talking openly about her experience raising a special needs child. (Palin was accused over and over again of “using Trig as a pawn,” which I gather meant “not acting ashamed of him.”)

And it’s not just controversial politicians and their children who receive this sort of treatment after deciding to “keep” a special needs child. Ask my friend Cassy Chesser, who gave birth to her son, Wyatt, after receiving a prenatal Down’s syndrome diagnosis.

“Online, it’s mostly the usual… people calling him a retard, saying he’ll never have a meaningful life. Stuff like that,” Cassy told me. “The worst is one girl who told me that I was crazy for having him and I should have had an abortion. Another person told me I shouldn’t have any more kids because Wyatt would be too much of a burden.”

This is the message drilled into women carrying disabled children. Their pain and fear is already great, as women like Cassy can tell you. Doctors, friends, and family say: terminate it. And if you have a few thousand dollars on hand, doctors like Carhart will do just that—on the eve of the child’s due date, and sometimes at great risk to the mother’s health.

As a commenter on Operation Rescue’s site said of Morbelli, “I knew her…she believed she was doing something selfless.”

I believe she believed that. If we want to stop these gruesome late-term abortions, Americans ought to take a look in the mirror: how do we treat women like Jennifer Morbelli and their babies?

15 Lies of Liberalism

Liberalism offers up a utopian vision of the world and then invites its practitioners to feel good about themselves for embracing it. Not only does this beautiful fantasy world never come to pass, liberalism fails to address the root causes of the problems it sets out to solve while creating whole new disasters in the process. In other words, it’s a never ending circle. There’s a problem, liberalism is offered up as the solution, it doesn’t work and creates more problems, for which liberalism is offered up as the solution, etc., etc., etc. until you’re starving, bankrupt, or your society is tearing itself apart at the seams.

Liberalism says that….

1) …it’s all about choice — unless you want to choose which gun or lightbulb to use, which school your child will attend, or you’d prefer more freedom and smaller government.

2) …it cares about the environment, when in practice, not only do liberals like Al Gore live some of the most resource-wasting and ostentatious lifestyles on the planet, but they hurt the environment by blocking environmentally friendly energy production here in favor of energy sources from nations that care little about pollution.

3) …you can have lots of free government services and somebody else will pay for them. The trillion dollar deficit we’re running every year that will have to be paid back says otherwise.

4) …as long as you use birth control that someone else is forced to pay for, there are no consequences whatsoever to having lots and lots of sex. Meanwhile, more than 50 million children have been killed by their own mothers via abortion and 1 out of every 4 adults in New York City has herpes.

5) …. “government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn.” Do you know anyone with crabgrass on his lawn? DO YOU?

6) …it’s all about compassion and taking care of the less fortunate, unless liberals have their own money on the line, in which case they give less to charity than those stingy, greedy, heartless conservatives.

7) …you shouldn’t take your Christian faith seriously, that political correctness matters more than the Bible, and that mocking God has no consequences. Ever heard someone say, “Don’t pick fights with people who buy ink by the barrel?” Well, if liberals were smarter, they wouldn’t be picking a fight with an omnipotent God who buys lightning bolts by the barrel and has a well earned reputation for getting fed up every once in awhile and dishing out “Old Testament style wrath” on His enemies.

8) …how much our country spends can be dictated by our wants, as opposed to what we can afford. Of course, if the world really works this way, Greece would be fine, nobody would have ever heard of the word “bankruptcy,” and the banks wouldn’t even bother to write down your name when you borrow money from them.

9) …liberals want unity and bipartisanship, which they apparently believe they can accomplish by spewing pure hatred and smearing, demonizing, threatening, and lying about anyone who disagrees with them.

10) …it’s going to deliver equality of outcomes for everyone, which is true, if by “delivering equality of outcomes” you mean “make everyone poorer.”

11) …it cares about women — unless they’re conservative women, in which case liberals will insult them in the vilest of terms, attack their children, call them whores and laugh and hoot at the most grotesque sexist attacks against them. Every last insult ever hurled at someone like Sandra Fluke probably wouldn’t amount to what women like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, and Ann Coulter put up with on any given week with the full support of the same liberals who run off at the mouth about a “war on women.”

12) ….it’ll help the poor — and it does. Liberalism helps poor Americans live in ghettos with just enough food and money to survive so they can stay dependent on liberals. It’s the same sort of help a farmer gives a chicken while he harvests its eggs and waits for the right time to wring its neck and toss it in the frying pan.

13) …liberals are the only people who care about black Americans and want to help, which doesn’t seem to square with the fact that just about anywhere and everywhere liberals have been in charge for decades, like Detroit or New Orleans, most black Americans are in dire straits.

14) …small business owners were able to build their businesses because they were lucky. But of course, if that’s true, why do we have such a high unemployment rate? Why doesn’t everyone who loses his job just set up his business and grab that easy money? Since bankers don’t deserve the big salaries they make, why doesn’t the Occupy movement set up its own bank and show the “banksters” how it’s done?

15) …you can fix crime by taking away guns, but by definition, the people who will voluntarily give up guns are law abiding citizens who have no intention of committing a crime in the first place. Besides, if that can work, why doesn’t Barack Obama set the example by asking his Secret Service agents to disarm?

25 People, Places, And Things Liberals Love To Hate

1) Guns for making all those poor innocent criminals break the law.

2) The old, dead white guys who founded America and their ridiculous, outdated Constitution that doesn’t mention global warming or limits on soda size even once.

3) Nosy voters who ask questions like, “What kind of change?” and “Forward to where?”

4) Adorable little kids who want to run lemonade stands…WITHOUT A PERMIT!

5) The fact that Sarah Palin is the single best feminist role model in a generation while the Left’s #1 feminist role model, Hillary Clinton, built her whole career around marrying the right guy.

6) Deciding issues based on the merits as opposed to going with whatever makes you sound “nice.”

7) Informed voters.

8) Those “deceptive” “negative” campaign ads that take liberals “completely out of context” by quoting them when they take unpopular positions.

9) Minorities who actually expect Democrats to make their life better in return for their vote.

10) People who define patriotism as actually loving your country.

11) Black men who don’t take orders from white liberals.

12) That no government program exists that can force Fox News to make Chris Matthews the head of its network.

13) Judging from Barack Obama’s presidency so far — jobs.

14) People who think anyone responsible enough to have sex is responsible enough to buy their own birth control.

15) All those dirty polluters who put a higher value on having electricity 24 hours a day at a reasonable cost with oil rather than using extremely expensive alternative energy sources that are only a few decades away from being almost as good.

16) Debt limits, budgets and anything else that makes it harder for liberals to spend other people’s money.

17) People who want to hear from conservatives what they believe instead of just accepting what liberals say conservatives believe.

18) Expecting liberals to live up to the same standards they want to impose on everyone else as opposed to tactfully ignoring their staggering hypocrisy because they “mean well.”

19) The South.

20) People who believe they should be allowed to choose what lightbulbs they want to use in their own house.

21) Crazy radicals who believe our country should live within its means even if it means the guy who plays Big Bird won’t be able to afford to have a butler.

22) The idea that everyone should be judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin.

23) Voters who expect liberals to keep the campaign promises they made when they were pretending to be moderates in order to get elected.

24) All these Christians who actually insist on trying to stick to the Bible instead of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi‘s interpretation of what God really meant to say.

25) People who live in America and actually like America, even when a Democrat isn’t in charge.
